Zechariah and Elizabeth were parents to John, who became known as John the Baptist. They lived about five miles west of Jerusalem in the hill country of Judea (Luke 1:39-40). After encountering an angel and submitting to God’s call on her life, Mary traveled from Nazareth to see Elizabeth. Three months later, she returned home. Almost certainly Mary traveled the same route she and Joseph would take later in her pregnancy. That means she made the 90-mile (145 km) journey three times during a nine-month span!
