This is one of a series of maps that will follow Paul's missionary journeys. On the first journey, Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark traveled to Cyprus, departing in Salamis and then walking the length of the island until they reached Paphos. There they met Sergius Paulus, proconsul of the region. His area of responsibility included Antioch of Pisidia. Paul and Barnabas left Cyprus and traveled to Antioch, so perhaps Sergius Paulus had given them a letter of introduction in that city. One of the lessons these maps and photos can provide is the simplicity of following the rather broad instructions of the Great Commission. How would Paul and Barnabas reach the world with the Gospel? One practical answer is that they followed the God-given connections they found along the most natural roads in the region. Note the mountainous nature of Cyprus, for instance. Road builders built roads around the mountains, not over them. Walking every step of the way, Paul and Barnabas certainly followed the path that was clearest and most logical.
