Caesarea Maritima Aqueduct 7

Herod the Great built Caesarea by the Mediterranean just a few years before Jesus was born. One of his biggest challenges was getting an ample supply of fresh water to the city. In time, five different aqueducts would bring water from sources 17 miles (27 km) away to a reservoir. It doesn’t rain in Israel from April to November, so having enough fresh water was critically important for any community.
