The tribe of Dan moved from its allocated territory to the furthest region in the northern part of Israel (Judges 18:1-31). Though the move was at first beneficial, it took the tribe far away from its religious center, a move that soon left its people corrupted spiritually. While the city was still part of the northern kingdom of Israel, Jeroboam established a golden calf in Dan (1 Kings 12:26-33), making it a shrine of pagan worship. The city was on the main highway leading to Syria, which meant every invading army posed a risk to those living there. Perhaps the spiritual and physical destruction of Dan are the reasons Dan does not appear in the list of 12 tribes in the book of Revelation.
