The Benjamin Desert is a small region reserved for the smallest tribe in Israel. King Saul was from this region. When two spies escaped from Jericho, they did so into the hills west of the city (Joshua 2:22). After Joshua conquered Jericho, the people moved westward, through the hills, until they conquered Ai (Joshua 7, 8) and Gibeon. Fighting in the desert of Benjamin would have seemed natural to the Hebrews. The wilderness had been their home for the past 40 years!
