Tekoa hometown of Amos

Amos the prophet was first a shepherd from Tekoa. The village was an 11-mile hike (18 km)  south of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and perched on the ridge of the Judean Mountains,  overlooking the Judean Wilderness. The modern-day community of Tekoa is a short walk from  the Herodium fortress, about a mile north of the ancient community.
