Flash Flood in Desert 02

During the winter, flash floods can suddenly sweep through the wilderness areas of Israel. This might be due to a rare rain shower in the desert, or it might be rain runoff from areas many miles away. The sudden infusion of water can cause the desert to briefly bloom. The flash floods are dangerous, and it’s not uncommon to hear of people dying in the wilderness due to the unexpected torrent of water. Jesus used flash-flood imagery in his parable of the wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7:24-27). When the water of a flash flood subsides, a bed of sand is left behind.
