This video uses a map to show several Philistine cities (in blue) and Saul’s march to Mt. Gilboa (in yellow) to stop the Philistines from moving into the Jezreel Valley. The first clip of footage is over Tel Jezreel, with Mt. Gilboa in the distance. Note the very steep hills of Gilboa. If the Israelites were running away from the battle, the hills might have afforded them protection. Saul realized he was about to be captured, so he fell on his sword on the slopes of the mountain. The Philistines hung his body on the walls of nearby Bet She’an, which was on top of the large mound in the last clip.
