Mount Hermon to Mount Tabor

Some travelers to Israel hear that Mount Tabor is the "Mount of Transfiguration." The Bible says Jesus went up a "high mountain" between visits to Caesarea Philippi. This video shows how far Tabor is from where Jesus was.

Why did Tabor ever become associated with the Transfiguration? It was a case of convenience for some of the first pilgrims to the Holy Land. Tabor is between Nazareth and Capernaum, two locations pilgrims could visit in the earliest centuries of tourism. Tabor was where they "remembered" the story. But in time, so many people visited the location, it became associated with the actual event.

There are several "traditional" locations in Israel like this. For more context, watch the video we've provided for Day 27 in our Gospel of Mark reading plan on the YouVersion Bible app.
