Israel Tour 05 Jerusalem

In many ways, Jerusalem seems to be the center of the world. The city is revered by Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. David made the city his capital, Jesus was crucified and resurrected there, and many end-time events are prophesied for the city. This overview of the city shows its position high in the Judean Mountains, some 2,500 feet (762 m)  above sea level. The Bible always speaks – without exception – of going “up” to Jerusalem. The people who recorded the stories of the Bible were walkers, and the hike to the Temple Mount took extreme effort. The Old City of Jerusalem is surrounded by walls that are, for the most part, only 500 years old. This video ends with scenes from the Temple Mount, including the Eastern Gate. Some of the world’s most important archaeological work is going on around and underneath the city. There is, for instance, an older Eastern Gate underneath the current one. Ancient cities get taller as time passes because of earthquakes, wars, and intentional remodeling by new rulers. New construction took place on top of the old rubble, buildings, and walls. Jerusalem’s walls have changed their position many times. Using illustrations of Jerusalem in the time of David, Solomon, Hezekiah, Nehemiah, and Jesus will be a great help in communicating this reality. The red lines in this video represent the intercontinental highways that connected Africa, Europe, and Asia. Notice that Jerusalem is not on the main highway. In fact, Jerusalem remains difficult to reach, a fact that has helped it survive centuries of conflict and upheaval in the Middle East. This video is one of several that can provide an overview of Israel, and the Bible stories that happened in a particular region. For more videos like this one, search for “Israel Tour.”
