On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus encountered 10 men who had leprosy. According to Luke 17:11, The meeting took place “between Samaria and Galilee.” This video shows the region of Samaria, Mt. Gilboa and the Jordan River Valley. The Gilboa hills serve as the border between the Galilee and Samaria. All foot traffic tended to be in the valleys, where walking was easier. Jesus was “on his way to Jerusalem,” which almost certainly put him in the Jordan River Valley. An unseen part of this story is that this is also the same general area where Elisha told the Syrian commander Naaman to immerse himself seven times in the Jordan River (2 Kings 5). When Naaman obeyed the prophet’s instruction, he was cleansed of his leprosy. Like the thankful leper in Luke’s story, Naaman returned to Elisha with thanksgiving.
