The Dead Sea is shrinking. The growing population of Israel and Jordan have been using the water of the Jordan River for drinking and irrigation for nearly a century. As a consequence, very little water from the river has been entering the Dead Sea for decades. This video begins with two water-level marks made by individuals working with the Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF) in 1913 and 1917. In this video, the drone flies more than a mile to the east before reaching the shoreline. The sea is half the size it was only a century ago. People living in the biblical era would have seen a much larger lake.
