Egypt to Marah

As Moses led the Israelites into the wilderness, the people quickly realized there wasn't enough water. To make matters worse, the water at Marah was "bitter." "Marah" means "bitter," as referenced later by Naomi in her disappointment (Ruth 1:20). Moses prayed and miraculously, the water at this location was made drinkable. The people moved on to Elim, where there was plenty of fresh water. The location and photos shown here are associated with Marah by tradition. It's very difficult to pin down an exact location, but the harsh nature of the land provides a clear picture of how difficult conditions must have been as the people started their long journey.
