Christmas Mary's song illustration

When greeted by Elizabeth, young Mary broke out into a song so rich with meaning, some of history’s greatest music composers have drawn inspiration from it for their own work. However, Mary didn’t write the song. Instead, every line of Mary’s song is actually a line from songs in her Hebrew Bible. Mary almost certainly faced disbelief and scorn from the women in Nazareth as she tried to explain her unusual pregnancy. Perhaps that grief would wait until a few months later, when there was no hiding the coming baby. Either way, it had to have been the most stressful season for a very young woman. But when she arrived at Elizabeth’s home in Ein Kerem, after hiking several days to get there, she was greeted by a woman who believed her story immediately. Elizabeth was well along in a miraculous pregnancy of her own. Mary broke into song, quoting what must have been some of her favorite passages from Scripture. This is a powerful illustration that gives us at least one clue as to why God chose Mary for the most important job ever given a human being. Mary treasured and memorized the Word of God!
