The Jordan River serves as a backdrop to many Bible stories, even when it’s not always mentioned. The river begins far to the north, at Mt. Hermon, and flows into the Sea of Galilee. It flows out of the Sea of Galilee on the lake’s southern shoreline, winds its way down the Jordan River Valley (also called the Rift Valley), and finally ends in the Dead Sea. This video shows where the river enters the lake in the north, and where it exits in the south. Bethsaida was near the entry point in the north. The most picturesque place to see the Jordan River is just south of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was not baptized in this location, but a lot of pilgrims to the Holy Land are!
