Ur to Haran to Shechem

When Abram left Ur and traveled to the Promised Land, it’s not difficult to determine the route he took. First of all, the Bible tells us the family traveled from Ur to Haran, where they settled for a season (Genesis 11:31-32). It was in Haran where Abram’s father Terah died. When the family started moving again, they headed due south for the land we know today as Israel. The second way we know the route is immediately obvious when looking at this video. They followed the water! No party traveling by foot would have gotten very far without water. This video ends in modern-day Nablus, or ancient Shechem. It was here where Abram built an altar to the Lord (Genesis 12:6-7). Shechem would play a role in more great Bible stories. Jacob's well is still in this city. Joshua had his people renew the covenant between the two great hills, with Gerizim on the left (south) and Ebal on the right (north). Jesus, too, would come to this area, meeting a woman at the well in Sychar.
