Jerusalem to Tiberias and Sea of Gaillee

After the resurrection, Jesus sent word to his disciples to meet him in Galilee (Mark 16:7). In John 21, Jesus reinstated Simon Peter along the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee.

The travel time from Jerusalem to Capernaum would have been about five days, assuming they walked 20 miles a day and covered the final 13 miles by sailing across the lake. The disciples stayed in Jerusalem for a full week after the resurrection, based on the appearance of Jesus to Thomas (John 20:26). The next week provides a perfect window for travel.

This video can help you communicate the long journey from Jerusalem to the Sea of Galilee. Tiberias was much smaller in Jesus' day. Even so, when John refers to the Sea of Galilee in John 21:1, he called it the "Sea of Tiberias." Some translations use the "Sea of Galilee" there, since both terms refer to the same lake.
