Herod Antipas had John the Baptist executed. He also interrogated Jesus on the day of the crucifixion. Herod was the son of Herod the Great, who was king when Jesus was born. Antipas ruled from Zippori, only six miles from Nazareth. He then moved to Tiberias, which was only six miles across the Sea of Galilee from Capernaum.
This video also visits the general location of where John the Baptist had been baptizing, near Jericho. Antipas also had a palace-fortress at Machaerus, in the wilderness east of the Dead Sea. This is where historians tell us John the Baptist was held prisoner and executed.
