This illustration uses footage from the ruins of Jerash, or ancient Gerasa, to paint a picture of how far people traveled to hear Jesus preach. The Gospels record people traveling from Jerusalem (a four-day hike, at a minimum), the wide-ranging Decapolis (between one and three days of travel), Tyre and Sidon (four days), and beyond to reach the area around Capernaum where Jesus based his ministry. This video shows the sloping hills on the northern shoreline of the Sea of Galilee. By some estimates, 80 percent of the recorded miracles and teaching of Jesus took place around this fresh-water lake.
