When Jesus met a woman at a well in Samaria, the biggest surprise to John and the other disciples was that they were in Samaria at all. Even the woman at the well was shocked that Jesus was speaking to her. Jews and Samaritans were not good neighbors! This video shows the route through the Judean and Samaritan mountains and the ruins in modern-day Nablus. The ancient community that once lived between Mt. Ebal and Mt. Gerizim was first known as Shechem. Abram, Jacob, and Joshua all knew the city, and Jacob's well was an important source of water for centuries. Jesus came to Sychar, apparently a small community just outside Shechem. After spending two days in the village, Jesus and the disciples returned to Capernaum. All roads shown follow modern-day roads ... and the likely path of ancient travelers.
