Magdala survey

This video works well in conjunction with one of our other videos on the Gamla synagogue. The synagogue at Magdala (Mary’s town) had a beautifully decorated table that was used for Torah readings. Like the synagogue in Gamla, people sat around the Bema and listened to Scripture readings each morning in this place of learning and worship. The “Magdala Stone,” as it is called, has carvings representing aspects of the Temple in Jerusalem. The stone in the synagogue today is a replica. Unlike the synagogue in Gamla, the synagogue in Magdala is covered, making it a little difficult to see. Because it is so close to Capernaum (10 miles, 6 km), it’s almost certain that Jesus spent time in Magdala, even though the Gospels don’t mention such a visit. That this was the home of Mary Magdalene only adds weight to that speculation. An estimated 80 percent of the recorded miracle of Jesus took place in the northern portion of the Sea of Galilee region.
