Corinth scenes with Bema

The ruins of ancient Corinth give us clues of the people Paul knew when he visited the city, and when he wrote them letters of instruction. In 2 Corinthians 5:10, Paul said this: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” Hidden from view is the Greek word for “judgment seat.” “Bematos” is a clear reference to the prominent “Bema” in the heart of Corinth. This video ends with that stone. Some civil cases were heard here. When opposition arose to Paul in Corinth (Acts 18:12-17), the charges were almost certainly held at the Bema, where the crowd turned on Sosthenes and beat him in sight of the proconsul. Corinth would have also used the Bema to formally congratulate its successful warriors, athletes and anyone who had performed a heroic act.
