Egyptian Temple at Abu Simbel

Ancient Egyptian temples were stunning in their size and complexity of construction. The temple at Abu Simbel has an entrance 30 feet high, with carved images of Ramses II and other Egyptian deities reaching twice that height. At the height of this Egyptian culture, the Hebrews were held in bondage there. After the Exodus, one psalmist penned Psalm 24 with tall gates and massive temples in mind. "Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle." (Psalm 24:7-8, repeated in verses 9-10.)
