Gibeah of Saul illustration

Gibeah is 3.5 miles (5.5 km) north of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. This was Saul’s home, a full generation before David turned Jerusalem into his capital. As it was on the main road leading across the ridge of the Judean Mountains, Gibeah had a lot of traffic. It was also a prime target for military campaigns. Jordan’s King Hussein bin Talal began building his palace on top of the ruins of what is believed to have been Saul’s palace. After the 1967 Six-Day War, Jordan withdrew to the eastern side of the Jordan River and the palace was never completed.
