08 Elijah Carmel to Negev Acacia tree

After his greatest ministry accomplishment, Elijah fled to the Negev Desert below Beersheba and then went on a search for the same mountain where Moses had once heard from God. The flight from Jezebel would have taken a few days. Elijah covered about 100 miles (160 km) just to reach the desert area south of Beersheba. Traveling alone through the hills of Israel, it would have been relatively easy to slip away from Jezebel and her supporters. Once he reached Judea, he was out of the reach of his enemies. Trees in the sun-scorched Negev Desert are hard to find. A broom bush would have provided shade and was a natural place for the exhausted prophet to rest.
